To some guitar players, there is nothing better than getting hold of a truly played in, battered axe that looks like its been on the road for the last twenty years, but plays and sounds like it was bought yesterday. And whilst these sorts of instruments exist, they are available only to the privileged few with money to burn and no doubt a collection to add to. However, that doesn’t stop those of us who live in the real world pining after guitars with a bit of an edge to them – which is where Badwater steps in.

badwaterguitarYou see, be it the authentic, road worn sixties original or the custom shop replica, some guitars will always be beyond the reach of the average guitarist. Yet Badwater fills the gap, and with some style. Offering awesomely distressed finishes that look like they might have survived a couple of world wars, not to mention a few hundred gigs, and coupling them with excellent playability and electronics that provide the best bang for buck value out there, these are instruments for the people.

Every inch of these guitars has been (not so lovingly) aged; from the cracked and fading paintwork to the rusting hardware and smooth, slinky necks that feel like they’ve been played forever, they also feature an unbelievable price point. These are guitars that demonstrate just what can be achieved with a bit of hard work and a fierce dedication to low prices and high quality construction. Once upon a time you’d be searching (or saving) for a lifetime to own a guitar with a fraction of the soul and raw rock and roll that can be found in any Badwater instrument – which just goes to show that a book should never be judged by it cover, no matter how battered it might be.
